    Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy at EHMC

ENBFrom Srikant Kondapaneni, MD, Section Chief of Pulmonary Medicine:

The Pulmonary Dept. at EHMC is now offering Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB)┬«, an innovative new procedure that has the ability to diagnose, stage and potentially help treat lung cancer. (For an informational video of ENB, click here.)

During navigation bronschocopy, i-Logic catheters are inserted through the mouth or nose and steered through the bronchial tree to lymph nodes and distal lesions. Evidence shows that early diagnosis of lung cancer can decrease mortality. ENB provides opportunities for earlier diagnosis and more treatment options. It can be used to:

  • Navigate to distal lesions for biopsy
  • Stage lymph nodes
  • Place radiosurgical markers for radiation treatment
  • Place markers to facilitate pulmonary VATS procedures
  • Guide high-dose radiation catheters

New at EHMC: Non-Contrast MRA and Cardiac MRI

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has recently installed a new Magnetic Resonance (MR) system--the Toshiba 1.5T Vantage Titan--that offers patients the highest level of image quality with advanced technologies to perform non-constrast Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) exams. With the new system, EHMC also has the capability to perform Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Non-contrast MRA: The ability to perform high-quality MRA without contrast has numerous benefits for patients. For instance, the most common contrast agents used for MRA--gadolinium-based contrast agents--have been directly linked to nephrogenic systemic fibrosis or nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy, a sometimes fatal skin disease occuring in patients with renal insufficiancy.
